How it is calculated
Trading days start at 17:00 New York, daylight saving included, weeks with Monday's. At a day's first bar the gap runs from the last close before it to its open: top the higher, bottom the lower. The first bar of a week sets the week's gap as well. A gap is filled once the bars from its first bar on have reached both its top and its bottom.

How to read it
filled is a state: 0 while the gap is open and 1 from the bar that closed it, and the levels stay until the next gap, since the old gap is still a reference. On round the clock forex data the day gap is often a pip or less; on futures the daily break makes it wider.
In a strategy
Trade toward the open gap: with g = ctx.ind("opening_gaps") and g.nwog_filled at 0, a position takes profit at g.nwog_bottom when price trades above the gap.
